Expected placement of fingerprint scanners in upcoming Google devices
According to a report by 9to5Google, recently discovered Android code indicates that Google is testing two devices with the UI of side-mounted fingerprint readers.
Firstly, the company is testing a “Y-aligned” fingerprint sensor where the reader will be placed on either the left-hand or right-hand side of the display. Google seems to be testing these sensors for both “folded” and “unfolded” situations of the foldable Pixel Notepad which is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series.
Meanwhile, for the 2023 Pixel Tablet, Google is testing an “X-aligned” placement which means the fingerprint sensor would be along the top or bottom edge of the display. The report claims that Pixel Tablet’s fingerprint sensor can be placed on the upper power or lock button, just like the Pixel Slate.
Other expected display specs of the upcoming Google devices
As per the code, at least one model of the Pixel Tablet is expected to have a display with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. On the other hand, the foldable Pixel Notepad’s inner screen (unfolded) might show a display resolution of 1840 x 2208 pixels while the outer screen (folded) will likely arrive with a resolution of 1080 x 2100 pixels.
The report also mentions that the Pixel Notepad’s inner display could measure nearly 123mm by 148mm and might support 1200 nits of peak brightness along with a 120Hz refresh rate.
