What is Google Discover?
The Google app has a separate section called the Discover feed which helps users to look for news and YouTube videos. But users might not like some of these recommended videos which they specifically want to hide from the Discover feed. This is where the new option comes in handy that allows users to block the videos from a particular YouTube channel without affecting the other recommended videos.
How does the new option work
Google Discover has allowed users to hide content from some websites that they don’t want to see. A similar option for YouTube videos was very much needed as forcing users to disable YouTube recommendations if they didn’t like a particular video was never a permanent solution.
Now, if users don’t like a video from a specific YouTube channel they can tap the three-dot menu button available on the bottom-left side of the video slab and use the disable option to block that particular channel. The new option is named “Don’t show content from (specific channel) on YouTube” and we have added a screenshot below to show how it looks.
This feature seemed to work for some YouTube channels but wasn’t available for all channels. This new option can also help users to personalise the content that shows up on their Discover feed. The articles and videos appearing in this section are mostly based on users’ searches and Google can sometimes go overboard with recommendations that can even turn out to be irrelevant.
Earlier, the Block All Youtube Videos option was rumoured to arrive on Google’s desktop homepage.
