In case of dengue, a high fever of 104 F is accompanied by two of the following symptoms: severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, nausea,

vomiting, swollen glands and skin rash.

The first 2-7 days of the infection is called the febrile phase.

The patient may enter the critical phase of infection 3-7 days after the illness during which the overall symptoms of the patient may deteriorate.

“Severe dengue is a potentially fatal complication, due to plasma leaking, fluid accumulation, respiratory distress, severe bleeding, or organ impairment,” the WHO warns. The warning signs during this phase are: severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, bleeding gums or nose, fatigue, restlessness, liver enlargement and blood in vomit or stool.
